The marvellous Joanna Fowles returned to Harvest Workroom again this week as a guest teacher and started our New Year off with a blast of vibrancy and pattern with the 3 day Experimental Printing and Dyeing workshop. We set up an atelier-style layout in the studio where students were assigned their own desk space and under Jo's guidance were encouraged to grow and develop their own style.
Various techniques were demonstrated such as mark making, dye, shibori and open screen-printing. Everyone was then free to spend the 3 days going in the direction that they were most drawn to with a constant emphasis on freeing up and "giving it a go".
Apart from the silk scarves, pillowcases and tea towels provided all manner of clothing and homewares were brought in from home and dipped in the dye vats with the biggest piece being a shibori doona cover!
Of course we all had a ball and look forward to hosting another one of these workshops very soon - stay tuned for new dates.
